After those layouts I posted at [livejournal.com profile] spring_spangel, I thought it would be interesting to play a little more with S2 styles. So, today I'm posting a Spike layout (yay) using S2 Smooth Sailing. As always, look, take, credit ;-).

Style: S2 Smooth Sailing
Title: Spike - Hands of a poet, heart of a man
Website: Not needed
Default Icon: Not needed
Best view: 800x600 and higher.
Browser(s) Compatible: Firefox, Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera.
Maker: [livejournal.com profile] amavel_bel (Mabel). Credit me in your user info page.
Resources: Images from the web site The DTD Angel & BtVS Gallery. Other resources (like brushes, textures and so on) are credited at my LJ Info Page.
Notes: For basic (free) and paid accounts and it works with Nav bar strip and Sponsored Plus Account (it looks better with horizontal ads).

Obs.: The images are provided in the code for convenience. They are hosted and I don't intend to take them down (hopefully I won't have exceeding bandwidth problem). If you want, I'm providing the links below, so you can take the images and upload them in your own server. Just the FRIENDS ONLY BANNER and the ICONS are optional.

background of the subject title in the entries

CUSTOM COLORS

Leave all the color fields blank. Actually, it's better to leave all the color fields blank.

CSS CODE

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

Preparing the code:
- Copy the CSS code and paste it in the Notepad.
- If you decided to host the images in your own server, replace every i38.photobucket.com/albums/e107/bel_layouts by the server address where you uploaded the images.

Configuring the layout:
- In the LJ page, go to Journal >> Change Journal Theme.
- If you're using S1 style do the following. If not, skip this step: Click in the link Switch to S2 in the blue box on the right side of the page. Then, click in the button "Yes, I want to upgrade to S2".
- In the 2. Select a New Theme section, type Smooth Sailing in the search box. Then select one of the themes listed and click in Apply Theme.
- In the 3. Choose a Page Setup section at the bottom of the page, choose "2 Column (sidebar on left)" and click in the button "Apply Layout".
- Then click in the button Customise your theme, in the bottom on the right side.
- Click in the option Custom CSS and under Use layout's stylesheet(s) choose No (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!). Then copy the CSS from the Notepad and paste it in the field Custom stylesheet.
- Then you can navigate through the links in the Customize Your Theme and personalize other things as you wish, like going to the Sidebar link and putting personalized labels or entering personalized texts inside the free text boxes, for example.
- Click in the button Save Changes and it's done.

If I was still in the buffyverse, I would snag. It's beautiful, sweetie.

Thanks, hun. I'm sorry to know you left the fandom.

I'm dying to have a personalized page, but I'm really not computer literate. If I start at 'special instructions' and follow the directions step by step, will that work for me?

From: [identity profile] amavel-bel.livejournal.com

Well, it has to work. I think S2 layouts are way simpler to configure than S1 Generator with sidebars. But I'm planning to make a post explaining a little better how to configurate S2 layouts (with screencaps and at all). Any doubts, just ask me ;-).

Brigada, Lene!!! Spike é uma grande fonte de inspiração, hehe.

Well, eu venho planejando fazer um layout de Brokeback Mountain faz tempo, só que não exatamente de cenas hot. Tava pensando em fazer algo mais meigo. Numa dessas eu desempaco o layout no fim-de-semana ;-).

Bjs querida

I know I just commented on this layout on the community, *G*....but I was wondering if you do layout requests? ;)

See my ETHAN from Band Candy icon??? I got it from [livejournal.com profile] alterian in the LJCommunity for BtVS/AtS icons I joined....

ANYWAY...Lol...

I was wondering if anyone has an LJ layout(one simple like your WILLOW SHE'S LIKE A BREEZE layout, cuz I'm not so good with the complicated layouts, even if I DO love them muchly!!!) that would go with my icon. *G*

Can you lemme know if someone makes one?? *G*

Thanks!!!!

*HUGS*

From: [identity profile] amavel-bel.livejournal.com

Thanks again :))).

I'm not taking requests now because I don't have much time and I still have some ideas of my own that I would like to put in layouts (like a Wesley/Lilah and a Brokeback Mountain layouts I have been willing to make since forever). Maybe I will end up making a special post to accept some requests eventually, but not now.

About simpler layouts, I assure you that configuring a S2 layout is way easier than configuring those S1 generator with sidebar. With S2 you don't even need to change the links of the images, cos I'm providing them in the CSS. You just have to host the CSS file and put the link in the proper field. Or just copy and paste the CSS code in the proper box. I'm going to make a post with more details about the configuration (with screencaps).

I know a community that accepts layout requests. It's called [livejournal.com profile] layouts_for_lj. But you have to provide the header banner, cos they only make the code.

*hugs you back*

Una pregunta, se puden poner fotos en la sidebar, hay que usar algun formato especial ademas del Image?

Y si se pueden poner todas en una sola box, o hay que usar una por cada caja?

From: [identity profile] amavel-bel.livejournal.com

SO!

I spent like an hour following the "Instructions" and I cannot for the life of me get it to work. It doesn't change anything from what I have. Like it looks the same.
I am following everything to a tee so I don't understand why it's not working. It doens't make sense to me. I've been tryign to get a layout just like this one for months now and it's driving me up the wall that I can't get it to work.

Any help you can offer would be awesome.

From: [identity profile] amavel-bel.livejournal.com

Hi,

I took a look at your LJ and I guess you followed the instructions right. But you changed 4 images in the original code, so that's the reason your LJ is looking a bit weird. Copy and paste the code exactly the way it is in this post without changing the path of the images and it will work fine.

Also, your FO banner is a bit large for this layout, try to make it smaller.

Any doubt, just ask me.

From: [identity profile] levenah.livejournal.com

I dont know what im doing wrong. maybe checking something but it wont change..at least not on my screen.

*sigh*

lol

Try to clean all the former CSS you're using. Or choose the default Smooth Sailing style first (the blue one, I guess) and then put my CSS code. Give it a try ;-).
