I know how you feel. We're going for the gold in men's handball tomorrow morning. Even if we don't win we've still got a guaranteed silver which is the best Iceland has ever done at the Olympics in any sport (two bronze medals until now). The semi-finale was yesterday and the whole country just shut down while watching. Empty streets, schools gave free periods, even shops were closed. I was at work and the online tv channel didn't work so I had to listen to the radio instead. I kept sending hubby (he's in Germany) the scores by text message but when the second half started he called me and begged me to put the phone by the radio. And then listened to the rest of the game that way. lol
They showed the match again last night and I watched it then. When they won and the team captain started crying and the coach staggered around from one team member to the other, looking like he was about to pass out, eyes rolling back in his head... God, it was the greatest moment ever. I don't think there was a dry eye in the whole of Iceland. If we win tomorrow *crosses fingers* the whole nation will go batshit insane. And even if we "only" get the silver the team will still be considered national heroes and hailed accordingly when they get back.
Oh, good luck to Icelandic masculine handball!!! I know how amazing is the feeling of winning gold medals, because for my country (like yours, I presume) is a hard task winning any medal at all.
By the way, our masculine volleyball team will try the gold medal in an hour again against USA. I'm anxious already!!!
Ai que lindo primeira medalha de ouro do vôlei feminino!!!
